Named after James 'Philosopher' Smith, who discovered tin at Mt Bischoff, Philosopher's Bar is where all the action happens.  It is a bar, bistro, bottle shop, cafe and guest check-in area and is a classic country pub style interior, with a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.  It has views of the waterfall, Mount Pearse and the gorge to the east.

The bar, bottle shop and cafe is open from 10am daily and closes between 8-10pm depending on patronage.   There is seating at the bar, tables and lounges and patrons can entertain themselves with the pool table, dart board and juke box, as well as a small selection of puzzles and games.  

 

Described as the "best stocked bar in the north-west of Tasmania". One guest even going so far as to say it is "better than some bars in Hobart"!  We are proud to offer a huge selection of Tasmanian craft beer, cider, whiskey, gin and wine; as well as some other common favourites.  We even have a brown beer on tap that has been crafted just for us by Buttons Brewing, called Bischoff Brown (4.7%).

 

Our espresso coffee, Thylacine, is roasted in Hobart and is delicious.
